Growing up in Southern California, I've seen a ba-gillion surf contests of all sorts..from little kids to the pros. And this one always seems to be the most fun because the energy is insane. The pros are surfing, the crowds are MASSIVE (which I typically don't love), it's hot and there is more than just surfing to watch. It's really fun. This was this last year's during the beginning of August.

This family treats me like I'm one of their own and I love it! Do you remember them? Their dogs were introduced to me and I fell in love with them. I got home to a sleeping husband, and told him, we need a dog. We had been discussing this already, for a few weeks now so it wasn't a weird thing to get online to look for some pups. Then, we found one in Huntington Beach, a puggle, and we went up and got her! That very day! (Otherwise we would have gone to your dance concert Anneliese!)

I'm finally getting around to showing everyone our travels from Singapore & Bali. This is what we saw while we stayed there for 7 days. Out the window and the porch. It's pretty amazing- it would down pour like crazy for an hour or more but the streets would be totally dry because of all the heavy tall trees. And another nice part about the trees? You couldn't see or really hear the traffic because they covered it! It was awesome. Definitely fun staying in a part you normally wouldn't stay at while visiting a city- since we did stay with the club's owners and not a hotel. We would have never been able to see all the families walking around at parks or men rushing to the subway for work. We would have stayed where they did work and children would have been nonexistent.

"We work from home."

We both work from home, and it's pretty awesome. Except Drew (the husband) can't work in the same room with me while I'm working on photos because I'm usually listening to music that consists of English pop stars or over-the-top lovey-dovey songs. Unless of course it's someone like Ryan Adams, he's my buddy. So he stays downstairs on the kitchen table or our white couches where he can only put his feet on the iron table and not the white couches. I'm sure you can see why :)

This shoot you ask? Gardens, acres, newborns, afternoon, fences and horses. Could I have asked for anything better? Nah. Do you recognize one of the couples in there? She was my first bride I did in Utah. She took a chance having me as her wedding photographer because I was such a baby in the photo world, and I'm so glad she did! She inspired me and made me excited to become a full-on wedding photographer. And I love her family. They're all so close with eachother, I felt like I was one of them by the time I left.

I knew these kids would be cool..but I had no idea they'd be this cool! I've known Melissa (their rockin hot mama) for a little over 8 years...so I knew when she emailed me that this was going to be a really sweet shoot. It usually takes me a little bit to get in the groove with my subjects, especially little humans, but with these cute boys, it took only seconds. They loved the camera and I loved them! Again! Again! Again!

The Capeners, my in-laws, just moved back to Utah from Switzerland about two months ago. We flew there to greet them and help them move from a storage unit to their new home. With all the moving and organizing, came a puppy! Lucy is her name and these were taken during her first 30 minutes home. She was nervous and just wanted to be held.

Celebrating Bri Blackwelder

Bri Blackwelder was a family friend and so many miss her. SO MANY. I can't even begin to tell you how many. I went to both her memorial and celebration, in SLC and Laguna Niguel, and luckily brought my camera to both events because it's pretty amazing to see how many people came to both, to support her parents, but also to reminisce her life. She was a pretty amazing woman, one that I hope to be atleast a little like someday.

Family Photo Give-away!

This give-away is quite different than most. 8 families have the chance to get a $300 value photo shoot for only $150! The first 8 people to email me will get this deal. The only catches are:

*Must be shot in Orange County (unless willing to pay a travel fee)

*Must be shot in the month of July

*For every person after 6 people, it's $15

The shoot will not last more than 90 minutes and will be at 2 locations if you wish! A disc of all copyrights to all edited images will be sent to your door no later than 10 days of the shoot.

In the email, let me know:

1. What three dates in July would work best.

2. The area that would be easiest for the shoot to be taken (Huntington Beach or San Clemente... relative)

3. If you'd like to have me come to your home and do it in your front/backyard or in your living room with a newborn...that's all good too! It's always easiest to do it at home if you want.

4. How many people will be at the shoot.

5. Let me know what time frame would work best:::between 7-9 am or 6-8pm

6. Your address so I can mail you a disc.

Payment will be given the day of the shoot.

So we have moved and I have a feeling I'll be looking back at all the film I have of Drew playing music in our first home together. This is a very recent one. Usually Drew would sit here if I was cooking rice/pasta and he had to watch it while it was simmering so they wouldn't get soggy. I think this night- we had made german pancakes in the oven and was watching it.

May Give-away #1- BIRTH STORY

I consider myself a documentary photographer. I mean that's really all I do. And so birth-stories are right up my alley. I have only done one before... so I thought, what a better way to start than to do a give-away??!

What do you get you ask?
1. $250 birth story (normally ranging at $800). The second place person gets it for $450. (If you've already booked one with me, you get it for that much as well!!)
2. This session can either be done in your home or at a hospital. I can be in and out of the room where you'll be giving birth, or at specific times and places. The one linked and photographed above was just right after baby had her first cry, I walked into the room.
3. This birth has to be in Orange County, unless you're willing to fly me out to wherever you and your womb may be.
4. All of it will be shot on BW FILM.
5. This birth must be taken place between September 2011 & beyond.
